Hello from The Corner

Hello everyone,
It was lovely to meet you all in Brisbane last week. I hope you have managed to have a bit of a rest since then as it was such a busy time!! Thanks very much for visiting The Corner, our under 8s area here at State Library. I know that many of you have your own children's areas in your IKC's so I thought I would let you know about a great toy stockist we use here in Brisbane.
Kurrajong Aboriginal Products are really excellent - they are based in Caboolture and write, illustrate, design and sew ALL their products here in Queensland. E
verything is created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and their stuff is really beautiful, well made, and not too expensive. They take phone and web orders and can ship their products directly to you. Their website is currently getting revamped but should be ready in the next few weeks. Alternatively you can ring Nola on (07) 5499 3289 who is always very helpful and can always sew up things that are not currently in stock - what a sensation! As a bit of a teaser, here is a photo of a lovely Torres Strait lady we bought for The Corner. I'm sure you will agree that she is quite beautiful!
thanks everyone - please get in touch if you have any questions.

Meriba Gidhal Exhibit Launch

Wednesday the 21st of October, 2009. Indigenous Knowledge Centre's Administrators from across Qld through the Cape and the Torres Strait Islands joined in with friends and distinguised guests and vistiors to celeberate the launch of "Meriba Gidhal" Torres Strait Island Treasures of the Margaret Lawrie Collection Exhibt.

I'm sure everyone who attended were very proud of being there and witnessing the actual launch. The pictures that I have inserted have very great sigificance to me, as they were of a "Myths & Legends" of the Walek. This night was so special that hopefully when I get back to Mua - Kubin, I will most likely share with Elders & Community Members of the pictures that were displayed in the glass cases.

Also the Exhibt is now officially open now till the 28th of February 2010. So Please come along and enjoy the exhibit.....or visit online on http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/whats-on/exhibit/online/tw/Displays/lawrie
